Our Midtown emergency eye care center regularly helps patients with:

  • Eye injuries (corneal abrasions, blunt trauma, cuts)
  • Sudden vision changes (blurry vision, partial or total loss)
  • Flashes of light, new floaters, or curtain-like vision changes (possible retinal detachment)
  • Foreign bodies in the eye (metal, glass, debris)
  • Chemical burns or splashes

Common Causes of Eye Injuries

We often see eye injuries caused by:

  • Sports accidents (ball impact, elbow, fall)
  • Workplace injuries (metal shavings, chemicals, equipment)
  • Home accidents (cleaning product splashes, sharp objects, DIY mishaps)
  • Cosmetic or beauty mishaps (lash extensions, makeup injuries, product irritation)
  • Contact lens misuse or overwear

No matter the cause, we’re equipped to assess, treat, and guide next steps.

What to Do in an Eye Emergency

If you experience an eye emergency:

  • Do not rub or press on your eye
  • Remove contact lenses if possible (unless embedded)
  • For chemicals: flush with clean water immediately
  • For foreign objects: avoid trying to remove anything embedded
  • Call our office at 212-689-2333 for guidance

If symptoms are severe (loss of consciousness, deep laceration, head trauma), go to the nearest emergency room — and contact us afterward for follow-up care.
